This weekend begins the three week long South Carolina Festival of Flowers in Greenwood, S.C. The Southeast Tourism Society has named this event one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast for 2012—the fifth year in a row.
The festival lasts three weeks and there is lots to do: antique auto show, wine tasting, art crawl, photography exhibit, horse show, concerts, garden tours, and a farm to fork dinner.
Greenwood is known by gardeners and plant enthusiasts as the home of the Park Seed Company. Many of you may be gardeners who look forward to receiving the Park Seed catalog each year.
Fittingly, Greenwood’s nickname is Emerald City because of the green landscape surrounding it. Uptown Greenwood will be the location for many festival events, with one of the favorites being the “topiaries” created from flowers. The theme this year is Safari and you will see beautiful flower creations in the form of all kinds of exotic animals.
In addition to the festival, there are shops and restaurants to meander through and Lake Greenwood State Park is available for recreational activities such as fishing, boating, and water sports.
