Taking a boat trip is fun in any season. Whether directed toward a destination or simply out for a ride, there’s always a sense of adventure.
This is the season the humpback whales migrate. Moving in large pods, they follow a route from the Bay of Fundy through the Atlantic waters off the Eastern United States. Also using this migration route is the fin whale. This speedy and powerful whale is second in size to the largest animal on earth: the blue whale.
Through late March, the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia offers a Winter Wildlife Boat Trip where you can experience the thrill of watching these majestic animals make their way south.
While sightings are not guaranteed, the possibility of seeing them coupled with the ride itself and the ability to watch sea birds such as double crested cormorants, northern gannets, and brown pelicans is enough to make this an OUTDOORLICIOUS! winter day on the water.
